Dangerous plants

Unread post by Tim »

Here is a picture of some of my Sarracenia plants. They grow on poor soil, and make up for it by giving off a sweet smell that attracts insects which then slip down the tubes to the bottom where they are digested. One plant can eat several hundred bees a year.

Tim,

You seem to be cultivating these, and you say "some" of your Sarracenia. Do these have a purpose? Are they typically used in a landscaping scheme for some purpose?

Hey, Tom.

Yes, I've got dozens of species of carnivorous plants, and I have them as a hobby, and sell them to organic greenhouse types to control bugs. There are only a few big enough to eat bees, and these Sarracenias can get 3 feet tall and as I say, eat hundreds. The litte white hairs you see all point downwards, and the bug can't get back out.

Regards
