I checked a couple yards of hives today. It appears that in the past week many queens have started laying much harder. Occasionally, I would find frames that would have patches with multiple eggs in the bottom of cells. Other parts of the frame would be laid perfectly.
I've seen freshly mated queens drop 3 or 4 eggs in cells like this when the queens were just getting going. Do queens in early spring sometimes drop multiple eggs like this until they get the hang of things again, or is this something I need to be concerned about?
In the strongest hives, the first drones are just beginning to emerge, and anything less than really strong hasn't started raising drones yet so it is extremely unlikely this is a new queen. (not to mention that the weather hasn't been good enough for mating flights)

Re: Queens laying multiple eggs in early spring
I wouldn't worry about it too much if the eggs are on the bottom of the cells and otherwise look normal.
Check in a week or two.
