short term banking of queens

Unread post by dtompsett »

I'm picking up a pile of queens tonight. Several are going to a friend who is out of town till Monday.

Warm dark quiet space, drop of water every day or two? Anything else I can do to ensure he's still got queens when he gets back?

Do the Queens have a attendants inside the cage with them? If so, that's what I do.

Yes... plenty of attendants in the cage.

Then that should work just fine. If you see attendants dying off, then that is a sign that the queens should be installed ASAP.

I was just gifted with three queens with most of the attendants dead, sticky from too much honey smeared on to feed! Queens a little sticky and moving slow. I drove out and put them on the top bars of a hive facing down and will see if they are alive tomorrow! I think I will direct release them to a couple frames of brood and nurse bees and see what happens. Even in there sorry state, one is about the longest caged queen I have ever seen. That is what led me to even try.

Good luck. Queens are pretty tough.
