Hand Cream

Unread post by Tim »

Hello,

This is actually Tim's wife - Brenda - posting. Tim gave me a recipe for some hand cream, which our daughter and I tried to make.

3 Tbsp grated beeswax (this was melted and strained for impurities)
1 Tbsp liquid lanolin
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
2 Tbsp strong-brewed camomile or Earl Grey tea
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp honey
1/8 tsp baking soda

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a glass ovenproof container. Heat in the microwave oven until the wax and oils are melted. Do not boil. Pour the mixture into a jar or container and allow to cool completely.

The recipe is supposed to have an easy rating, but we can't seem to get the hand cream right.

The first batch was too oily.

Tim suggested using only 1/4 cup grapeseed oil, and 1 tsp coconut oil. This batch was better, but it still separates, and its slightly gritty.

For the third (and last batch so far) I tried not only reducing the oils, but increasing the beeswax to 4 Tbsp.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Suggestions or perhaps a different recipe would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Brenda

Hi Kristy,

Thank you for your offer of the recipes. I've been looking for more to try. Of the five that you have, have you tried any of them? Did they work?

Please do post them when you have time.

Thank you very much,
Brenda

Hello again Brenda,

I haven't actually had the chance to try any of these recipes... but I tend to collect things like this whenever I see them. I'm still waiting to actually get the extra time to make some of them...

***********
Cocoa Butter Moisturizer for Dry Skin

2 Tbsp Shaved Beeswax
4 Tbsp Shaved Cocoa Butter
1/4 cup Almond Oil
3 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Aloe Vera Gel
1 Tbsp Honey

Combine first four ingredients in a double boiler and heat mixture until wax and cocoa butter is fully melted. Remove the pot from heat. Mix the aloe and the honey together and then stir into the hot mixture. Continue stirring until the mixture cools and thickens.
***********

I'll post the other ones either a little later tonight or tomorrow... please let me know how they work!

Thank you for your help Kristy. I do my shopping and errands on Saturdays, so I can complete my shopping for ingredients then and let you know early next week how it goes.
