Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
Lets' start a list of the best. I wonder how many really good ones we can list. I've seen a few, but can't come up with any at the moment.
Please give the title, URL, and a paragraph explaining the length, topic, and best features of the chosen video.

Re: Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
Here are some that I thought were pretty helpful and well done.
Keeping bees in frozen North America.
Michael Palmer gives some good, practical tips for northern beekeepers. Interesting and well produced. 1 hour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFanJbaigM4
Another Michael Palmer video which demonstrates how to inspect a hive in the fall
11 minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0aHrVJDRfk
An older video I believe is from Germany. Good info on making a shook swarm. Controlling varroa and some general beekeeping tips. Efficiency of the operation is amazing. Wish I had such calm bees that can be worked without a veil. 51 minutes

I will second Cam's suggestions.
I like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px3agh67_xI
There are some others done by this group that are also very good. There is one on raising queens that I like.

I wonder what happened to this group. Seemed like they had a very good, efficient operation but they don't seem to exist anymore. In any event they really helped me when I got back into beekeeping after a 30 year hiatus. I had forgotten a lot and had no clue about varroa and tracheal.

They are not on YouTube, but there are previews of the DVD series put out by David Eyre of The Bee Works (Orillia, Ontario):

As a new beekeeper I found David's videos very helpful. I liked that he explained not just what he does but why.

Re: Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
I enjoy watching videos of commercial beekeeping operations. But often, they are better at beekeeping than making videos, and they don't always do the best job of explaining things.
I like the videos from Malka queens.
http://www.malkaqueens.com/ingles/video/videos.html
Mike Palmer has a couple good videos on Vimeo about overwintering nucleus hives.
http://vimeo.com/23178333
http://vimeo.com/23234196
I like Mike Palmer's YouTube channel too.

I like Kirk Jones, but he doesn't always explain things very much. His videos aren't teaching videos...they are more just showing you parts of his operation. If you are familiar with beekeeping, his videos can be informative.

Re: Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
There are a number of good presentations from the 2013 & 2014 National Honey Show (UK) posted on their YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiOtIe ... qma0H5wLYQ
A few links to Mike Palmer's 4 presentations at the 2013 show have already been posted.
Most presentations are 30-60 mins. Sometimes it is nice to watch more that the typical 3 min YouTube snippet.

Re: Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
Hi,
Welcome, and thanks for the link.
Glad to see a new discussion participant. I know we have quite few people reading, but many never register or post.
I hope the registration process is not too daunting. At one time this forum really rocked, but then we got hit with Spam and I had to tighten up the fences. I still get a bit in the moderation queue now and then, but moderating new members until they have posted a few times seems to have eliminated the problem.
Again, thanks!

This is a simple queen rearing method for someone who wants a batch or two. Mel Disselkoen is where I learned it and his mdasplitter.com OTS method has my full endorsement.

Re: Best YouTube Bee Videos to Recommend
In this video Paul Stamets speaks about how extracts of the mycelium of mushrooms can have strengthening effects on the immune systems of bees and reduce their viral burden. It is interesting, though sometimes he speaks so fast it is hard to understand him.

I have gathered the Chaga and Reishi for people who have cancer. I guess I should gather some for my bees too.
