This morning I sailed around Tobin Island.  After lunch, I had a nap, then John Pat dropped by for a visit.  I'm still feeling run down and this medication for my ears is not working.

The reunion is over, things are settling down, and we are all planning on going our separate ways.  Jean & Chris and kids will be driving west through the Soo  and the northern US, leaving Tuesday morning.  Jon, Ellen and I are going to Teepee 2300 for Tuesday then Ellen flies west on Wednesday

After supper, Ellen drove the red van north and Mom and I followed a while later.  Jon stayed at Pine Hill for the night.  Ellen and I arrived at 1207just before nine and spent the night at Mom's.

Jonathan arrived in Mom's car just before eight-thirty and we three drove out to Whitefish Falls.  Bill was there and ferried us across to the Island.  We spent the day visiting and left for Sudbury after supper.  We arrived at Mom's around nine-thirty and stayed the night there.

Ellen flies to Calgary today, so Jon and I drop her at YSB and then plan to return to Pine Hill.  Between now and then, on the way to the airport, we plan to visit Linda.

We visited Linda, then Jon and I drove south to Pine Hill.  He visited Ron and Joan, and I started catching up on paying bills.

My ears are still blocked and I am still feeling poorly.  Cipro does not help.

Jon and I decided to cut up the deadfall that was blocking the path.  It turned out that quite a bit of it was still hung up in other nearby trees.  We tried the comealong and that did not budge it, so we used my van.  Several good tugs finally brought it down, but I barely escaped damaging the van as the branches came down.  They reached farther than I had thought.  Several leafy branches brushed the van as the thing finally fell, and left marks in the dust, but no scratches in the paint.

I had another doctor's appointment at 3 PM and was told that one eardrum is now perforated.  The Cipro had done little for me and this time I got a prescription for Amoxil.  Amoxil worked last time, and quite quickly.  The doctor also sent me to Bracebridge to have my eye examined.  I drove over, had it looked at in emergency at the local hospital, and was referred to a specialist in Midland.

Today's reading hive scale reading. There are four beehives on this scale. From there, I returned to Port Carling for burgers on the dock with John Pat, Diane, Chris, Ron, and Joan.  Jon stayed home and did some chores over the Internet.

Ellen sent me the latest scale reading,  The scale read '51'  on the 24th of July and now reads '94-1/2'.  That is a gain of 43-1/2 lbs over 11 days for the four splits on the scale, or a pound a day for each hive.  These hives were split twice this year and are not supposed to be making surplus honey.  I would not mind if they drew some foundation, though.  I gave them lots.

The engine is out of the boat, allwing access to the inside of the transom.Today is the last day before we pick up the kids at camp.  So far, this morning, I am feeling better.  That is how fast the Amoxil works.  I have to run into Port for some blood tests, then hope to work on the tree, the boat, and do some sailing as well.

Jon cut up more of the deadfall and we toted up five loads of wood in the van.  Later, we worked on the boat, hoisting the engine up and out so I can access the transom better.

I am feeling much better today and have more ambition.  The antibiotic is working.  We are off to Camp Muskoka today to see the camp and to pick the kids up.

We went to the camp. had a tour and a swim, then lunch.  The drive back to Pine Hill is about an hour and we were back by 2:30.  We were tired, so we all had a nap, then supper and then went tubing behind the sailboat.  The Hunter 23.5 is quite adequate for small kids.  The low speeds -- 6 knots or so -- allow them to build up confidence.

This evening, I drive Jon and the kids to YYC.  They'll stay in a hotel overnight and fly out for Santa Anna early tomorrow.  Zippy and I will drive back to Muskoka, and then it will just be Zippy and me here.

Having people around keeps me busy.  Readers may notice that I have barely kept up this diary, and that I have yet to make a new August page.  After the dust settles, I should have lots of time to catch up on this page and the books, and also to get more done on Cloud 9.  Then Zippy and I drive west; I'm expecting to leave on the 15th.

Late in the day, I drove Jon and the kids to their hotel.  The trip should take a little over two hours, but it took us four.  We happened to be driving south with the returning weekend cottage traffic, since we chose 4:30 Pm Sunday as a departure time, as, apparently, did everyone else.  We stopped at Barrie for supper, hoping that the traffic would clear, but it didn't.  Just the same, it could have been much worse.  This experience takes me back to the days when i worked in Toronto and drove to Muskoka on weekends, bogged down in traffic both ways.  Back then, much of the the 400 was one or two lanes each way as I recall.  Now it is 6 lanes and divided for much of the way, and 4 lanes for the rest.

I dropped them at the hotel and drove back north, stopping for gas twice and checking out the shopping centre c/w Wal-Mart at highway 88.  I had not realized how close Bradford is to the 400.  The city is only a mile off the highway, but invisible from the 400.  I only bought enough gas at Bradford to get me to Gasoline Alley, south of Gravenhurst, where the fuel is always 5 to 10 cents cheaper than anywhere else.  There, I filled the tank.

Today's reading hive scale reading. There are four beehives on this scale.I arrived at Pine Hill at 11:30.  I'm done!  The family reunion and cottage time went off without a hitch and without any conflicts.  Perfect!  Now it is just Zippy and me at Pine Hill -- and a list of jobs to keep me more than busy until I head west on the 15th.

From the looks of things, not much has been happening with the scale hives.  I'll know better on the 19th when I get home.

About now (8 AM), Jon and the kids should be flying west towards Vancouver on  their first hop to Santa Anna.  I'm off to Bracebridge to see my urologist and to do the pile of wash that has accumulated.

The doctor did a quick exam and said I'm fine.  Then I lucked out on dollar day at the Laundromat.   Apparently Mondays are discount day at this one facility.  Bonus!  Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket right away.  I had noticed all the cars were parked solid outside this one -- they are side by side -- and none next door, so chose it first, but since I have lots to do, I walked over and asked next door, just to be sure.  That one was empty.  The machines here are only a dollar today.  At the Laundromat next door, they are $3.25.

After doing a little shopping and driving back to Pine Hill, I spent the rest of the day catching up and tidying.   Jon phoned at 8 to say they arrived home safely.

I'm off to Midland early this morning to see an ophthalmologist.

That went well.  On the drive home, I dropped by Gord's marina to visit with John, Gord and Shanta.  The recent market volatility has been a topic of conversation lately, with some large down days and rebounds.  People seem to have gotten used to the fluctuations and so far there is more bemusement than panic.Today's reading hive scale reading. There are four beehives on this scale.

I see that the hives gained a pound each over the past two days.
