Well, I'm back from Christmas holidays, but pretty busy. More later. In the meantime, here is link. As for the picture (top), we are in the middle of a coal bed methane area and wells are popping up all over the place. They are drilling down about a half mile. We're used to wells, though, since we are also in the middle of an oilfield. The oil wells are deeper. How deep have I been, personally? Well, about a mile exactly in Inco's Stobie 7 Shaft, back in the 1960s when I was a hardrock miner. The mine was directly below the Clarabelle open pit, where I normally worked as a slusher operator and chute blaster on ten hundred level. Ten hundred was cold and wet, but down five thousand feet, the temperature was in the nineties and dry. Just in case you were wondering... Today : Periods of snow. Amount 2 to 5 cm. High minus 17./ Tonight : Cloudy periods. 70 percent chance of flurries this evening. / Normals for the period : Low minus 17. High minus 5.
Today : Sunny. High minus 18./ Tonight : Cloudy periods. Low minus 28. / Normals for the period : Low minus 17. High minus 5. Jean, Chris and the kid came by for a visit and stayed over.
Jean and family left around noon, and I spent the rest of the day day tearing down and rebuilding the furnace transmission. I took my time and enjoyed the job. Monday : A mix of sun and cloud. Wind becoming north 20 km/h in the afternoon. High minus 18. Wind chill minus 32.
I did a few last minutes adjustments to the transmission, threw my things into a bag and Ellen drove me to YYC. The temperature was minus 26. I caught my Delta flight to SLC. I was assigned seat 8A and figured I'd be at the front of the plane. Surprise! I was only a few rows from the back. The machine was a Canadair regional jet, a tiny imitation of a real passenger jet. It was a bit cramped but was smooth and made good time. At SLC, we all walked down a ramp onto the pavement and down a long shed to the terminal and then all the way back to my final flight to PHX which was parked near the plane I arrived in. The transfer involved a lot of unnecessary walking and the terminal reminded me of a bus station more than an airport. This is the first time I have ever flown Delta. Hmmmm. The second plane was about the same size. It got us to PHX okay, but we had to wait for a thunderstorm to leave the airport area before we could land. I went straight to my car rental and got my Neon, then went to get my bag. It was not there on the carousel, so I checked with Delta. Apparently the bag had not made it onto the PHX flight. Not surprising, since I had barely made it myself, the connection time was so short, and everything seems to be running late in YYC and SLC. They promised to send it to Tucson and said it should get to my hotel by the time I drove down there. I drove south and east on I10 and found the Holiday Inn Palo Verde, but when I arrived, my bag had not. By bedtime, it was still not there, and I spent the night without my stuff. Tuesday : Sunny. Low minus 27. High minus 18.
