How to Read BEE-L

BEE-L is an old, established list with a history and a definite culture.

Everyone and anyone is welcome to participate in BEE-L, but before you even think of posting  to BEE-L, please spend a few hours reading recent messages and browsing through the archives.  We guarantee you will be delighted with the wit and wisdom, and the co-operation among our members, and you will learn a lot.

There are a several ways to read BEE-L.

  1. If you are just sampling BEE-L, or don't want a lot of email, then try visiting the web interface often and reading the latest posts.

  2. If you want to receive the posts by email, then

To get regular free email delivery you must subscribe. When subscribing, you must decide and specify which of the following options you want:

  • You can get one post, once a day that contains all the posts to BEE-L for the entire day included (Digest) or

  • You can get the normal delivery that sends each post to you as it is approved and distributed in real time from the LISTSERV.

Should you choose the 'individual messages'  option, you may not wish to have all the BEE-L messages accumulate in your email inbox. There can be up to 20 a day, although the traffic is usually much less.

Most email programs have an option to allow you to filter the incoming messages using 'rules' or 'filters'.  Consult 'Help' for your software.

If you take a few moments to set up the rules or filters, then all your BEE-L messages will go into their own special folder on your computer and you can read them there offline whenever and as often as you wish.

I recommend that you do not delete messages too quickly after you read them, since you may wish to refer back to them as the discussion goes on.

After you have read BEE-L a while, you may wish to post to BEE-L.  Before doing so, please consult the guidelines and plunge in.  If your first post does not make it, then try again, and ask for advice if you are having problems understanding what the problem is.  The moderators are friendly and... er, uh... moderate.  They will gladly help you if you are polite and respect the high standards of the list.
