We use 2/3 of a jar (large size sold by the co-op) in roughly 100 one-pound paddies.

In the fall we use 2/3 of a jar in an 18 barrel tank, so not very high then as that would feed about 9 beeyards or 270 colonies winter syrup.

Other factors may come into play for us that mitigate nosema problems such as the two-pack wraps that have the hives always facing south with a solar south side (black plastic only) and insulation on the other three sides of the pack. We think this provides less stress, and more access to feed as solar heat allows cluster to loosen up a bit in the day time.

Bottom line is no significant defecation problems and pretty steady queen performance. Although we did have some yards that had more problems with HBTM in 1997 than I had seen before.

Treating with apistan is the same catch 22, some hives will need it more than others as the mite spreads, but treatment on 2000 hives is best done across the board, to avoid hidden loss that occurs if production is down 10% and you don't know it.
