<<<As far as spring treatment goes, I have fed the recommended rate in inside feaders and have come to the conclusion by "unscientific means" that it is not worth it. We don't treat in the spring anymore but I'm open to anything and so perhaps your work will force me to take another look at it.>>>

That's exactly the conclusion I myself had reached over the years, even to the extent that I have had $1000 worth of fumigillan sitting around for the last couple of years and not bothered using it.

Nonetheless, the extension people keep hammering away about nosema, so Eric and I thought that maybe there was something that we can't see. We also thought -- along with others -- that maybe since we have mite loads now that we didn't before, that maybe we should 'get with the programme'.

I haven't gotten past the stage of verifying how to test accurately for nosema. One thing I've learned so far in this exercise is is that we do have nosema (I never doubted it), but that it is at lower levels -- if you trust our methods of testing -- than I would have thought.
