You are finding very few spores in an 80 square search. I have never seen this although I don't search that many squares. When I see Nosema I see (from) 3 to many in the 16 square area and no matter where I go on the slide the spores are there. I will sometime just jump all over, looking for a non-nosema area and am unable to find one. I have never seen a small count in one 16 square block and been unable to find Nosema elsewhere so I feel that you might be counting something that is not nosema at all.
The sample I sent you should arrive any day and maybe we can do some comparison. Unfortunately I did not keep a sample here. It is also unfortunate that the counts I found in this sample were not all that high. 4 million I think. This sample was 20 headless bees in 20 ml. of water.
I think, when all the dust settles, we will find something here.
