Your findings are in line with what I had found when I worked for the Queensland Department of Primary Industries in the 80's as an Apiary Inspector. I accidentally found that two samples taken from the same hive did not give the same nosema counts. As I recall, they were not even close. We were only using 10 bees, as I recall, and the difference was there.

There must be a little bit of ESP here, Allen, as I have been thinking about this difference in nosema counts from the same hive in the past few months and I have been thinking about doing some work myself on this.

When I get my act together, I will let you know what I find.
