I'm in Sudbury today and visiting Mom. The weather is cool and I'm hoping to catch up on some bookwork. Seems that I get very little accomplished these days, but spend all day doing it.
I went to an antique car show at Bell park, and noticed that I could have bought most of the 'antique' vehicles there when they were brand new, but there were a few oldies, like a '31 Model A.
I had a swim along the shore where I swam as a boy. The lake is cleaner now than then, and the water was warm.

I spent the day in Sudbury. In the evening, Mom & I went to see Fahrenheit 9/11. As expected, it contained a lot of cheap shots, innuendo, distortion and other propaganda effects, but was, on the whole, pretty good entertainment. Although the film claims to be a documentary, it is really stretches the definition of the word. Although I doubt that the film will affect the views of those of us who read widely and are informed on history and subtle background issues, I wonder about its effect on the gullible and the ignorant, an audience to which it plays strongly at many points.

An interesting question... Anybody have a better idea? I had planned on introducing some virgin queens into nucs today, but to my dismay 5 of my nucs had been robbed out and were without any bees. These queens are now 2 days old and I am unsure as to being able to introduce them with any degree of success to a full sized colony. Would you please give me some advice as to being able to successfully get these queens mated and taken care of? Will I have to make up some more nucs?
How soon after shaking bees into a nuc can I introduce the virgin queen?
I have read some of the info on bee-l but it doesn't seem to particularly cover my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

After breakfast, I drove to Pine
Hill.
Linda and Kyla were there; Sid had gone to Toronto for the day. I stopped at
the Cranberry marsh
on the way to get some of their pure cranberry juice.
The first news I heard, on arrival, was that the cottage across the river,(the brown one on the right), a combination of living quarters and boathouse, had burnt down to the dock during the night. Around 3 AM, in the midst of a heavy downpour, everyone had heard a loud 'crack' of lightening, and a few minutes later, the river had turned orange with the flames.
John H., Jill, AJ, and Joan came by in the afternoon, and we took Cloud 9 out for a spin to look at the ruins and to drop by at John Patterson's. We visited a while, then they were on their way. That evening, I dropped over to Pattersons' for a visit.

UV index 8 or very high. / Tonight : A few showers. Risk of a severe thunderstorm. Wind southeast 20 km/h becoming light near midnight. Low 11. / / Normals for the period : Low 10. High 24.

First thing, I had an appointment with the doctor and a sigmoidoscope. The procedure, investigation of the bowel, was quite interesting and reassuring, since no polyps or other problems were found. Apparently this check is recommended for those of us over 50.
The rest of the day was spent catching up on paperwork.
A contribution, much
appreciated...
Thanks. Gotta run now, but will catch things up soon. I'll use one of these next page. |
